Statement of Values & Philosophy
Since the company’s founding in 1953, our leadership has been guided by Christian principles. At the heart of this philosophy is a commitment to the Golden Rule, as found in the Christian Scriptures:
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
— Matthew 7:12
And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
— Luke 6:31
In later years, the founders’ sons, John and Thomas Martin, expanded upon this foundation by outlining a series of Biblically inspired values known as the MAR-MAC Philosophies which are:
- To conduct all business dealings honestly, ethically, and fairly—with customers, suppliers, employees, and associates alike.
- To recognize that our responsibilities extend beyond the individual to their families, and to support those families within the scope of a for-profit enterprise by providing:
❯ A clean, safe, and respectful workplace.
❯ Meaningful recognition of individual and team accomplishments.
❯ Opportunities for participation in decision-making processes.
❯ Open communication across all levels of the organization.
❯ The highest possible wages and benefits.
- To affirm that strong families form the cornerstone of a healthy society, and to avoid actions that could harm or weaken the family unit.
- To treat the customer as our top priority, recognizing that we must understand and meet their unique needs to earn their trust and loyalty.
- To differentiate our company through service and quality, rather than competing primarily on price.
- To achieve enough diversification to protect the company against the market fluctuations of any one particular industry or market. To recognize that only through sustained growth can the company remain viable, therefore, there will be times when prudent financial risk must be taken in conflict with the conservative policies of the company.
- To maximize both short-term and long-term profitability, investing conservatively and wisely to ensure the longevity and health of the company. Every dollar spent should provide value- either in return to the business, or in benefit to employees, customers, or the broader community.
- To strive to influence local, regional, national, and worldwide decisions and policies affecting our business.
At MAR-MAC, our core purpose is:
“To honor God by seeking and accepting his guidance in properly serving our customers, our employees, and our stakeholders.”
We have continually asked ourselves: “If a company were truly led by God, what would it look like?” While we don’t claim to have all the answers, or to have fulfilled this vision completely, we do strive daily to move closer to that ideal. We believe such a company would:
- Have leaders who earnestly seek divine guidance.
- Create a culture that supports and encourages employees in their personal faith journeys.
- Foster an environment where service to one another is both valued and practiced.
- Be transparent about its commitment to be God-led.
- Recognize that, as a for-profit business, profitability is essential to our mission and longevity.
- Pursue excellence in all aspects of operation.
Ultimately, while we acknowledge our imperfections, we remain committed to honoring God through our work and by doing business according to the principles we believe He has set forth.
